The company specializes in cybersecurity ESET released a monthly report commenting on the major threats for the month of October. Among them was a security flaw in the system encryption WhatsApp .
The application allowed third parties to intercept text and files sent through the service because of the prediction system messages . Once the hacker could access a shared network in which the smartphone was connected , it was possible to carry out information theft with relative ease .
According to ESET , this action could be facilitated if the patient was connected to a public WiFi network or without minimal security. Thus , the company says that it is safer to stay connected to 3G or 4G networks for exchange of information on such tools .
The report also warns of ESET ransomware attacks that began to spread from Mexico . This type of threat invades the victim's computer and blocks all documents or even the OS itself through encryption and then asks for a ransom to send the key to unlock the computer . This particular attack was asking $ 150 for free content kidnapped , but there is no information on events of its kind in Brazil .
The company advises victims of ransomware to keep always backup your data so that this practice can not be harmful . "Pay the ransom is nothing more than encourage this illegal business model , which is not recommended in this case ," explains André Goujon , research specialist ESET Latin America .
