BCS , The Chartered Institute for IT , has launched an initiative of cybersecurity in conjunction with Get Safe Online that aims to bring online safety education to local communities .
The program, called Cyber Citizen , comes shortly after the National Cyber Security Programme of the UK government launched its Cyber Streetwise plan earlier this month , with a website that offers a variety of resources and advice for businesses and consumers on how to better protect themselves online .

BCS is taking a more personal approach , with the aim of linking volunteer experts from among its members with local communities to provide advice and practical education , including demonstrating the use of safeguards such as passwords and PIN keep the software updated .

"Our goal is to make a significant contribution to the minimization of online crime and other threats by increasing awareness of how to stay online behavior change and safe ," says John Doody , lead cyber security for BCS .
Get Safe Online says that the message you want to convey is that small changes in behavior can make a significant difference in improving safety.
" The Internet is a very positive thing and with a little more vigilance , people need not worry about being caught by cyber criminals," Get Safe Online adds CEO Tony Neate .
